Rain or shine, Alex Palou continues to rule the NTT INDYCAR SERIES.

Three-time and two-time defending series champion Palou led the warmup for the Children’s of Alabama Indy Grand Prix powered by AmFirst on Sunday morning at Barber Motorsports Park, a day after he won the NTT P1 Award for the fourth race of the season.

Series points leader Palou, who has won two of the first three races of the season, produced a top lap of 1 minute, 7.9015 in the No. 10 HRC Chip Ganassi Racing Honda. The session took place under bright sunshine and air temperatures around 60 degrees, a marked change from the intermittent rain of Saturday and the muggy heat of Friday at the 17-turn, 2.3-mile natural-terrain road course.

Pato O’Ward, who qualified eighth, was second at 1:08.1494 in the No. 5 Arrow McLaren Chevrolet. Colton Herta matched his starting position of third in the final practice, with a best lap of 1:08.1801 in the No. 26 Gainbridge Honda of Andretti Global.

Six-time series champion Scott Dixon was fourth at 1:08.2292 in the No. 9 PNC Bank Chip Ganassi Racing Honda. Dixon will need that pace in the race to try and earn his first Barber victory, as he is starting 26th after an off-track excursion in the first round of NTT P1 Award qualifying Saturday.

Two-time reigning Barber winner Scott McLaughlin looks to be in good shape for an attempt to three-peat, as he ended fifth at 1:08.2370 in the No. 3 Good Ranchers Team Penske Chevrolet. McLaughlin joins Palou on the front row of the lineup, starting second.

The 90-lap race is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. ET today (FOX, FOX Sports app, INDYCAR Radio Network). Palou will seek his first win at Barber since he earned his first series victory in his inaugural start with Chip Ganassi Racing in 2021. Palou drove for Dale Coyne Racing as a rookie in 2020.
