INDYCAR Officiating has announced a post-race penalty for the entries of Nos. 4 and 14 of A.J. Foyt Enterprises following today’s INDY NXT by Firestone Grand Prix at Road America Race 2.
During post-race inspection of car Nos. 4 and 14, INDYCAR Officiating discovered that in Race 2, Car No. 14’s tires from Saturday’s qualifying session were installed on Car No. 4 and Car No. 4’s tires from qualifying were installed on Car No. 14 (photo, above).
As part of the discovery, neither car started either race of the weekend doubleheader on the same set of tires the car used during qualifying.
A.J. Foyt Racing was in violation of:
- Rule 15.1.3. Tires are assigned to a specific Entrant and may not be sold, traded or otherwise reassigned, given or transferred to any other Entrant.
- 1.12.2. For double-header Race Events, each Entrant is required to start one of the two races on the same set of tires used during Qualifications.
INDYCAR Officiating considers this a Level 3 infraction based on the published Penalty Guidelines. As the highest infraction level, both cars have been disqualified and neither is eligible for driver or entrant points from Race 2.
With the penalty, Car No. 20 of Cape Motorsports Powered by ECR and driver Matteo Nannini are awarded the win and points commensurate to the victory. Car No. 71 of HMD Motorsports and driver Tymek Kucharczyk are awarded second place with Car No. 21 of Cape Motorsports Powered by ECR and driver Nikita Johnson awarded third place.
Updated results and point standings following the INDY NXT by Firestone Grand Prix of Road America Race 2 will be posted in due time.
