Nikita Johnson won the 2026 INDY NXT by Firestone championship with Cape Motorsports Powered by ECR, earning two wins, 10 top-five finishes and a top-10 finish in all 17 races.
At 18 years, 3 months and 12 days old, Johnson became the youngest champion in INDY NXT history -- eight days younger than A.J. Foyt IV was when he won the 2002 title at 18 years, 3 months and 20 days.
Johnson made three INDY NXT starts with HMD Motorsports in 2025. The Florida native raced in four open-wheel series across three continents that year, including Formula Regional Oceania, British GB3 and FIA Formula 3. He became the youngest-ever British GB3 winner in 2024 with a victory at Zandvoort, followed by another at Brands Hatch. Johnson finished second in the 2024 USF Pro 2000 championship with eight wins and was runner-up in USF2000 in 2023. He also became the youngest USF Pro 2000 race winner at Circuit of the Americas in 2023 at age 15.
